Practical Information

Date and Place of the School

The Third Asia-Europe-Pacific School of High-Energy Physics will be held from 12 to 25 October 2016 in Beijing, China. All the participants will be housed in the International Conference Centre on the Yanqihu Campus, University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, close to Beijing, that will also provide the conference facilities for the lectures and discussion sessions.

The students, faculty and staff of the School will be lodged in the International Conference Centre on the Yanqihu Campus, University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Students will share twin rooms with bathrooms. Please note that the rooms will be allocated by the Organizers, mixing students of different nationalities with a view to promoting cultural exchanges between them. Photographs of the campus and surroundings are shown below.

The lecture hall and the rooms for the discussion sessions are situated in the conference-centre complex.

Breakfast, lunch and evening meals will be served in the restaurant of the conference centre. There is a bar where participants will be able to purchase drinks in the evenings. Free wireless internet will be provided for all participants, but please note that the bandwith will be very limited and coverage may be restricted to certain public areas of the conference centre.

Travel Arrangements

Students who are selected to attend the School should arrange to arrive in Beijing for registration during the afternoon or evening of Wednesday 12 October. The School will end on the morning of Tuesday 25 October after breakfast.

On the day of arrival a free pick-up service will be organized between Beijing airport and the conference centre. Similarly, on the departure day, free transport will be offered to the airport. Note that students should not make firm bookings for travel to the school before they have been formally accepted, and travel arrangements for funded students must be agreed in advance by the School organizers.


The weather in Beijing in October is cool but mainly dry - with an average maximum temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius, and the average minimum temperature is around 8 degrees Celsius.

Social Progamme

Reception: A welcome drink reception will be held before the dinner on Thursday, 13 October.
Banquet: A farewell party will be held on Monday, 24 October.
Excursions: There will be 1 full-day excursion and 1 half-day excursion organised during the School - details will be posted later on the website.


The working language of the School will be English. Participants must therefore have a good understanding of English to enable them to benefit from the School.


The School Proceedings will be published as a CERN Yellow Report and a KEK Report. Each participant is entitled to one copy free of charge (on request).
